As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m originally from the Caribbean, so I tend to fall head over heels for anything that reminds me of the ocean — sandy colors, coral patterns, beach stones…you name it. Still, this lamp falls on that really thin line. You know — the line between unusually fabulous and over-the-top gaudy.
I am drawn to its organic shape and the shade made of natural, fossilized cocoa leaves, as well as the whimsical nature of the gangly “tentacles.” Definitely not something you see every day. But while the natural and green versions might have a chance in my home, I draw the line at the multicolored lampshade. Reminds me too much of stained glass windows in an old church.
All that said, this lamp did do one thing. It inspired a new feature here at Green Your Decor called “Drab or Fab.” Every now and then, I’ll come across a product that challenges my taste, and I’ll ask your opinion. Do you think it’s fabulous, or is it a bad idea that never should have happened?
Why It’s Green:
- Shade made of natural fossilized cocoa leaves
- Handmade
- Frame made of powder-coated wrought iron, which is recyclable
Price: $229.99
What’s the final verdict? Is this lamp drab or fab? Leave a comment and let me know!

That lamp is wonderful. The cream colored one would look great in my living room, except that we have a kitten who would no doubt launch an attach on the tentacles and tear it to bits.

I like the natural colored one. I’m sure my daughter would get a kick out of it!

Can you say cat toy? I know my cat would have a ball with all the things that are hanging down. LOL
I really like them though. I would choose the solid color ones.
LOVE it!! Very unique and fun.
I think it’s awesome. It’s so pretty and unique. Who wouldn’t want over a lamp you see everywhere.
I do not like- looks like a toy and does not look like a jellyfish
I LOVE IT! Oh my gosh. My husband wouldn’t let it in our house I bet, but, I think it’s absolutely gorgeous. I like fun, playful touches added to decor (I wouldn’t decorate an entire room in that way…). Admittedly, I wouldn’t go for the multi-coloured one — it does seem a bit gaudy.

Absolutely fab, though I do have to agree with K. Cleaver when she says it’d be a cat toy. Unfortunately, they’d have a doomed life with my two cats around. Otherwise, I’d be wanting to add them to my decor! I love the Art Nouveau look.
I like the lamps very much! Thanks, Cindi
Very cool. I love the ocean. Fab!
Pricetag-Drab.

Drab! Kids and cats would kill it quick price is wayyyy too much.
oh my goodness- i LOVE these lamps!! so unique and different- adding whimsy to my place! unfortunately, paying off student loans means the price tag is a little steep… but they are SO COOL.
@Nicole & K. Cleaver I guess its obvious I don’t have any pets. But now that I think about it, my daughter mught attack the tentacles too!
@Tatiana I think my husband would give this one a thumbs down too. I haven’t shown it to him, but I can picture the look on his face already.
@Dave I can’t disagree with you that the price is a bit steep. But seeing how I’ve fallen in love with lamps for $600+, I guess I have a little perspective
