One way we can eliminate poverty is to remember to spend time with others, to pass on our specialised skills to them. Those skills one day could mean the difference between poverty and financial independence–one never knows! We can spend our free time with those in need: the physically or mentally challenged; lonely seniors; troubled children; the at-risk; the sick. An hour a month may change someone’s life!

I couldn’t agree more with your suggestion to donate furniture to charity that you would otherwise throw out. It’s crazy how many nice pieces of furniture I see thrown to the curb almost every single day.

Those are all great suggestions! I think more people need to remember that any contribution helps! Donating clothes and blankets or even an old chair can give someone who has nothing, something. Being conscious of your spending is good advice for everyone, especially right now. Just donating the $5 you would have spent on a coffee could provide someone else with a lot more. We can all make a difference!

for my part, since i’m unable to donate, i turn to sites like freerice, kiva, and goodsearch, as ways to help alleviate poverty online.

Those are all great suggestions, I certainly should listen to many of them myself!

I am going to donate to a local charity that serves the poor and I am also going to donate 4 toys this year to Toys For Tots, instead of one. One for each member of our family.
