Why Are Kitchen and Bathroom Remodels So Valuable?

We spend a lot of time thinking about ways to improve our homes — both for ourselves and to improve resale value. In fact, every decision we make when it comes to home renovation, whether it’s paint color or the details of a large-scale remodel, will have an effect on the overall value of our house.

This is why so many people hesitate to start projects that will cost a lot of money to complete. We ask ourselves whether they will be worth it, and what the most important part of the house is to renovate. For most of us, our choices are all about the dollar signs. But realistically, there should be more to our decisions than that.

The truth is that we get what you pay for, and if we try to cut corners when taking on a remodeling project, it will show and decrease the resale value of the home. If you want your remodeling job to increase your home’s value, you’re probably better off hiring a professional who delivers high-quality kitchen and bath remodels. Trying to do the work on a major job yourself can end up costing more in the long run — both in terms of quality of work and resale value.

When work isn’t done well, it shows to potential buyers, who tend to have a sharp eye when considering such a huge purchase. They will be looking for any excuse to say no, any issue that could come up after the papers are signed. The lesson? Don’t skimp on major projects. Here are a few reasons why kitchens and bathrooms are the most popular rooms to remodel.

You’ll get a return on your money

One of the biggest reasons kitchen and bathroom remodels are most popular is that they tend to consistently deliver returns. Decades of studies have shown that these rooms are the most important to potential homebuyers. The kitchen alone can make a sale or break interest if it looks tired, outdated, or shoddy. In some cases, people will offer less for the house because they know they’ll need to do a remodel themselves, so they want to save on the upfront cost to make up for it. This same argument could be made for bathrooms. Investing in a remodel of these two rooms makes it more likely that you will get asking price, or better.

They’re extensive projects

Another reason why kitchens and bathrooms are so popular in the remodel discussion is the depth of the project. Other rooms around the house don’t require nearly as much work, planning or financing as these two rooms. You have to think about plumbing and electrical and cupboards and appliances and more. A living room, at most, might require a wall get knocked down or put up, a new carpet laid, and new paint or trim, plus maybe choosing new furniture. Kitchens and baths are the complete package. They are significant investments that require careful planning to execute correctly, which is also why they reap the best rewards.

In some cases, when dealing with kitchens and bathrooms, you’ll require an emergency plumber in a difficult situation. When that happens, we recommend calling the best 24/7 Emergency Plumbing Services San Diego CA. The team at Adept Plumbing always get the job done right!

They have a huge impact

Even for those who don’t plan to sell their home, but have lived there for years already, a new kitchen or bathroom breathes new life into a house. It isn’t as much about the investment in dollars as it is about the satisfaction of giving the house you already love a modern update that’s appealing to everyone in the family. And the longer you stay in the home, the more that renovation project will benefit in the eventual sale of the home.

So if you’re considering where to spend your dollars in remodeling your home, a kitchen or bathroom remodel will likely give you the most bang for your buck.

My husband and I have talked about remodeling our bathroom for quite some time now. I didn’t even think that it could boost the value of our home. We currently have no intentions to sell our home, but if we do then I’m glad to know that our potential project could boost the asking price.
