I save all my cards. This year my class made gift boxes to give to elder shut-ins. We got the help of meals on wheels to deliver them. We decorated the boxes with cut up Thanksgiving cards from the last three years. It saved on using stickers and looked nicer too. This can be done for Christmas or Birthdays also.

Committed to going "green" this year we decided to buy a potted pine tree that we can replant after the holidays and we also trimmed it with recycled ornaments. Now if I can just find green lighting to save on energy use during the holidays I would feel better about all those lights.

When I light up the tree, I turn off the lights as much as possible. They now sell energy saving lights.

If you still put up a real tree after Christmas instead of throwing it out see if there is a recycling center or someone that will pick it up. They put them in lakes and ponds because it is good for the fish!

Love to recycle as much as possible so these are my tips!
1) Anything can be a beautiful ornament with a little glitter! Broken toys(find unique shapes!) , egg shells(blown eggs then rolled in glue and glitter), and for the little ones, toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, etc.
2) Scratched CDs give alot of sparkle! Paint designs on them, or cut them up with some heavy duty scissors for ornaments, or make a wreath if you have a bunch. This is great for music lovers too!
3) Use what you find outdoors. Painted rocks, glued together, make a sweet little santa. Thin tree branches (especially white birch)in a vase look elegant. And of course, evergreen and pinecones! You don't even have to cut things down, if you go to a public park or right in your backyard they'll be right there.
4) Make wrapping paper out of: The Sunday comics, paper grocery bags(a few paint stamps work wonders), and even tinfoil is lovely if you're in a hurry and you have it on hand!
These are just a few of my tips. In the end, just reuse your decorations and show them to others to make the holidays even brighter. Sharing with others is a great way to brighten their holidays and spread a little of your eco friendly tips at the same time!

Tip 2: Make sure to recycle all the wrapping paper. Either save it for next year, or just put it in the recycle bin.

I love this idea. However, it did make me think. There are a lot of things to make the holidays more green. I say walk or take the public transportation when going out shopping. This will help the environment a lot.

Thanks for doing this giveaway.
