I am a big believer that furniture should match the size and scale of the room they are in, when possible. Ie. If you have a small room, stick to smaller scale furniture with other airy features, like armless chairs, cube tables that allow you to see the floor, sofas with narrower legs, etc. The modernist in me loves low, sleek platform beds and prefers small, functional tv-stands to wall-unit entertainment centers. So if you’re suffering from a severe lack of space in your living room, the Wright Media Console from CB2.com is a great cure for it.
The simple, doorless piece is just 14″ tall, but it has an ample 59″ inches of horizontal storage — more than enough to house all your peripherals and maybe a couple of books too. And it’s the perfect size for a new flat-panel TV — hopefully an energy efficient model. What’s great about the size of this console is that you can also use it as a coffee table in a space-impaired room. The open design will make the room feel larger because you can see what’s on either side of the table.
But since style matters less to me than substance when I’m shopping for furniture, I’m glad to see that it’s made of plantation-grown shesham wood. Considering the wood is sustainable, this is a pretty good price for a piece of furniture that is simple and versatile enough to last through years of style changes.
Why It’s Green:
- Made of plantation-grown, sustainable shesham wood
- Uses a water-based lacquer finish
Price: $349 (on sale from $399)
