Dress Your Nest with Obama-Inspired Housewares

by jennae on January 20, 2009

In honor of the newly sworn in President Obama, I scoured Etsy.com for handmade Obama housewares. I cheated, since most of them aren’t made of specifically eco-friendly materials. But for this historic occasion, all of us could use a little Obama memorabilia to help us remember how far we have come as a nation. So here’s some handmade Obamarama for your enjoyment!

1. Obama print from Emcee

Obama Print by Emcee

This 8.5 x 11 print was inspired by inauguration day and is delivered in a protective envelope. It is inspirational and straight up awesome — much like the man himself. Price: $30

2. Vinyl inaugural wall quote by itswrittenonthewall

Inaugural Wall Quote by itswrittenonthewall

I hesitate to use this one because it is made of vinyl (definitely not an environmentally-friendly material), but I love the quote, and it is something all of us could stand to remember. The quote? “Starting today…we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.” It is 28″ wide x 17″ tall, and you can choose from dozens of colors to match your decor. Price: $21.99

3. Limited edition Obamaware cups by Freedomware

I absolutely love these mugs! They are hand-thrown and carved using layers of colored porcelain. The front of the mugs feature an image of Obama, and the back features the word “Obama” and a donkey for the Democratic party. At these prices, I’m not sure I’d ever drink from any of them, but they would make incredible family heirlooms. Price: $65-75

4. Obama pillow by bigstonehead

Obama Face Pillow by bigstonehead

This double-sided pillow features a caricature of Obama printed on natural cotton canvas on one side with a red and gold damask fabric on the other. So you can show your Presidential spirit, then flip it over to change your decor. As a bonus, there is a fact about Obama inside every pillow. So when you or your pet tear the pillow open in years to come, it won’t be a total loss. Price: $20

5. Barack Obama Hope Mirror by Scarfwhore

Barack Obama Hope Mirror by Scarfwhore

Obama’s two-color posters and t-shirts have become infamous, and this mirror captures the style perfectly. The black mirror is decoupaged with Barack’s image and his message of hope. I love it. Price: $16

Many of these items are going to be one of a kind, so get ‘em while they last! If you have found or made any more awesome Obama housewares, tell me about it in the comments and I’ll add them to this post.

I do love Obama’s quote. It is such a bold and truthful statement and goal for this country, at this crucial time.
