Green Steals of the Week: Netto CUB Crib & Changing Station

Netto Collection CUB Crib and Changing Table (eco-friendly)

UPDATE as of 5/24/09: This deal is no longer available from Overstock. I’ll be looking for similar deals and I’ll post them as soon as I find them! For now, check out the rest of the deals in the nursery and Green Steals of the Week categories.

When you’re a pregnant, especially with your first baby, all the additional expenses to build a nursery can be daunting, particularly when trying to make it non-toxic and eco-friendly. There’s new furniture to buy, layette items to be found, and you have to decide whether to go with traditional dispoable diapers (bad for the Earth) or opt for reusable cloth diapers. Well thanks to the wonderful Jackie over at Tiny Decor, I discovered a deal today that will make your green nursery-building a whole lot easier.

Overstock.com is currently offering the Netto CUB Crib for $199.99icon and the matching Changing Station for $149.99icon. These are steals compared to the normal retail price of $625 each. You literally cannot beat this deal. Period. These pieces are “slight seconds,” meaning that there could be very slight imperfections to the finish, but there is nothing wrong with the way the furniture was built. They are also non-returnable. For these prices, those would be two very small risks I’d be willing to take.

Why It’s Green:

  • All of the wood used in Netto’s pieces is sustainably harvested
  • All of their finishes are non-toxic and non-VOC emitting
  • Composite materials meet European “E1″ toxicity standards

Price: $199.99icon (crib) and $149.99icon (changer) For a limited time, you also get free shipping!

One of my friends just found out she’s expecting, I sent her a link to this page immediately. Thanks for the great find!

Now that’s an attractive crib at a very incredible price. I have babies who are just about to grow out of their cribs. Had this deal been around a few years ago I’d have been all over this.

I just bought the crib from overstock, but am now worried because it doesn’t come with a mattress. Can you recommend mattresses that will fit this crib that won’t break my budget?
Thank you!

@Hilary If you bought this crib, I’m guessing you probably want an eco-friendly mattress as well, and I applaud you for that :) . They do cost more than traditional mattresses, but given how much time babies spend in bed, I believe they are essential — even moreso than the crib itself. Here are the best prices I’ve found (on mattresses that have gotten good reviews):

- Naturepedic Organic Cotton Cradle Mattress ($129): http://tinyurl.com/dmdoeu

The others are priced considerably higher:
- Pixel Organics 100% Organic 510 Coil Inner Spring Crib Mattress ($250.09): http://tinyurl.com/b8omjw
- Naturepedic Seamless Organic Crib & Toddler Mattress ($259): http://tinyurl.com/dfx2uo
- Organic Cotton & Wool Quilted Mattress ($254.99): http://tinyurl.com/2s7ar7

If these are still out of your budget, I would recommend getting and organic cotton mattress cover at the very least. Hope that helped!
