Straight from the Sea: Reclaimed Teak Mirror from Pottery Barn

by jennae on April 22, 2009

teakmirrorI like to think that I’m a pretty easy person to please (although my husband might tell you otherwise). I am a fierce protector of my family’s health and the planet who also happens to love being surrounded by beautiful things. Because the green message has become so prolific these days, it’s becoming a lot easier for me to have both.  I can’t help but thinking that four years ago, I never would have found a mirror like this at Pottery Barn. Finding a beautiful mirror wouldn’t have been hard at all. But finding one also made of reclaimed materials? That is definitely a more recent addition to their offerings.

The Reclaimed Teak Mirror is one of those pieces that a room can be built around. Although it isn’t very large at just 30.5″ in diameter, it is dramatic enough to be a great focal point. The fact that it is made from planks of reclaimed teak from old fishing boats makes it all the more beautiful in my eyes. I wonder, though, where the mirror was made, and I suspect it is imported. If I could find a Fair Trade version of this mirror, I’d be sold in a heartbeat.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of reclaimed teak

Price: $199
