Next Time, Won’t You Sing with Me: Alpha Coffee Table

Having been in the newspaper business as an editor and designer for years before taking on graphic design full time, I am ever a student of typography. I love the way curves and angles come together to create beautiful letterforms that take the English alphabet to new levels. In fact, I am such a font geek that I have a knack for recognizing font families on sight alone. My husband thinks its a little bit kooky, but hey — we all have our quirks.
The typography on the top of this Alpha Coffee Table may outdate my font knowledge, but it is beautiful nonetheless. According to Crate & Barrel, this unique table was inspired by a Paris flea market find and designed by a London graphic designer with collects antique printers’ blocks. I can’t say I’m surprised by that last bit of trivia. This looks like the work of someone who loves typography.
It has a 3-dimensional, multi-tone look that makes it the perfect fit for eclectic decor — and it would be awesome in the home office of a creative professional (hint, hint :)) Now if I could just convince myself to get a coffee table…
Why It’s Green:
- Made of sustainable, plantation-grown shesham wood
- Base made of powder-coated steel (powder coating is a zero-VOC finishing process, though there is some dispute about its other green qualities)
Price: $899

Being a graphic artist, this turns me on. My wife, on the other hand, would hate it.
@Dave C. Isn’t compromise lovely? I don’t know that my husband would “hate” it, but I do know it would be more welcome in my office than anywhere else in the house
