This has been a busy weekend for Green Your Decor. I’m no longer posting on the weekend, but I did make some changes that I believe will make your reading experience richer.

Sidebar

I reorganized the sidebar to make it less cluttered and easier to navigate. Recommended Resources has been replaced with “Featured Sponsors” and pared down to three ads. I also created a new tabbed navigation system. This moves the search up near the top of the sidebar and cuts clutter by letting you hide the categories, archives, etc. when you’re not using them. The last tab is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. If you want to link to Green Your Decor via a banner, you can now just grab some simple code, and voila!

I also created graphic links to my series pages: Green Rooms in a Box, Green Steals of the Week and Drab or Fab. Now you can access them without having to search through those pesky categories Lastly, I included graphic links to the other places on the web where you can find me, from Wal-Mart’s ElevenMoms to Blissfully Domestic. I basically didn’t want a zillion different logos in the sidebar, so I made my own

Design Consulting Service

Since I started this blog, a lot of people have asked me for decorating advice, tips, resources, stores, etc. I love helping out, and so I’ve created a consultation service. For a fee, you can send me photos of your room along with your budget and any specifications (”I love blue” or “My cats are like my children”), and I’ll create a style board complete with where to shop, prices and advice for furniture and accessory placement and more. 2 Mandy 10.13.08 at 1:51 pm: I think that’s a great idea, and I hope you find it a fun way to make a little extra money on the side! I think $150 is a fair price for someone who can only see pictures and made guesses as to what would actually work in the space. However, consulting takes more than a week, as most people will want to respond with “I don’t like those lamps” or “I don’t like the color of the table” and you’d need to re-do your design board. Is that another $150?

@Mandy What will take a week is the initial planning of the style board. Having been a graphic designer for so long, I’m used to client “revisions”, if you will. So to answer your question, I definitely won’t charge another $150 to change out a couple items the client isn’t happy with. I’ll do my best to accommodate their requests, since the idea is to create a space they will love If I have to start completely from scratch, there may be a fee involved for that, but I’m learning as I go along. The best way to avoid that is for the client to be a detailed as possible in what they like and hope to accomplish. Visual aids of rooms they like from magazines, Google images or wherever would be a huge help in that regard.
