We pretty much sleep on the floor too: tatami mats with a mattress on top and my back is starting to pay the price after two and a half years on it. Its also getting harder and harder for me to get out of bed due to MS related issues so we are looking for REAL bed soon after we move. I would LOVE a simple, modern platform bed just as long as its high enough for me.

The stillwell in queen would probably work!

@Victoria I couldn't agree with you more. I'm seriously considering making my own, much more affordable platform bed with a bunch of cubes from WayBasics: http://www.waybasics.com/shop/home.php

I'm a little concerned about how they'd hold up if used as a bed. The cube I got from them last year has been remarkably hardy, so if I use that as my guide, I should be OK. Here's my original review: http://www.greenyourdecor.com/757/product-review-and-eco-creative-giveaway-way-basics-recycled-paper-furniture/

@Nikki I would suggest calling your local lumber yard or home improvement retailer and asking them point blank if they carry lumber that has been sustainably harvested. Ask if it is FSC-certified, was plantation grown, has been locally sourced, or all of the above. If they can't answer your questions, I'd call another lumber yard. Or you could just make a bed from WayBasics cubes like I was explaining above :)

Love the beds - my husband has promised to make one for my 16 yr old daughter - I'm wondering where we can find eco friendly wood for the project. We live on Vancouver Island, Canada

Glad to know I'm not the only one who slept on floor mattresses (did it all 3 years I lived in San Francisco). Yeah, a bed frame is nice, but certainly not a priority to groceries & bills. ;)
