Green Your Closet with EcoHangers

 EcoHangers

Let’s face it: our closets aren’t the easiest places to “green.” Yeah, we can buy organic clothes and vegan shoes, but the hangers most of us use are probably made of metal or plastic that contains toxic chemicals. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The EcoHanger is a 100% recycled and recyclable clothes hanger that offers a simple, lasting way to help the enivronment.

EcoHangers, which are made by the Manhattan-based Hanger Network, are 100% biodegradable and recyclable. You know those wire hangers I mentioned? Well, they can take 100 years to decompose. They would still be in the landfill when your grandkids are all grown up. Plastic hangers use non-sustainable resources like petroleum, and we as a nation consume entirely too much petroleum as it is. EcoHangers are made of recycled paperboard, and therefore put no added strain on the Earth’s resources. They are also manufactured in EPA-regulated plants in the U.S.

And with a price that is comparable to standard hangers, there’s not a whole lot to think about. That said, my very first question was “how strong can these hangers really be if they’re made of paper?” Well, according to laboratory tests and dozens of national news reports, they are as strong as, if not stronger than, wire hangers. Hundreds of dry cleaners across the country are switching to them. Considering that dry cleaners aren’t in the business of losing money and hangers are a direct reflection on the quality of their service, I’d say that’s a pretty good endorsement.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of 100% recycled paperboard
  • Biodegradable and recyclable
  • Made in the U.S. in EPA-regulated plants

Price: $8.99 for 12-pack, $16.99 for 24-pack
