Green Gift Giveaway: Presso Manual Espresso Machine

Green Your Decor will be offering giveaways from several retailers and manufacturers that were featured in the Green Gift Guide. The duration of the giveaways will be short so they can end before Christmas. However, prize delivery may not happen until after Dec. 25 due to the short time frame. Come back throughout this week and next so you won’t miss any of these awesome giveaways!

I have been addicted to coffee ice cream for years, particularly if it’s made by Starbucks. But would you believe I only started drinking coffee, cappuccino and espresso a few weeks ago? Yeah. Crazy, I know. But now I can’t get enough of it. And since we didn’t have a coffee maker, that meant numerous runs to the nearest McDonalds (don’t hate me) or coffee shop to get a cup. At least that’s the way it was until Presso, the makers of this fabulous manual espresso machine, sent me one to review.

All I can say is heaven! The idea that I can have a fresh shot of espresso from my own kitchen is awesome. In fact, I can make a single shot or a double shot, simply by adding a small attachment that comes with the machine. It is also incredibly easy to use and requires no electricity. Well, technically you have to boil some water on the stove, but the espresso machine itself doesn’t require any power to operate. You simply add ground coffee of your choice, add hot water, and press. Voila! A hot shot of espresso. It also comes with a milk frother, which you use directly inside your cup.

Seriously, I couldn’t have asked for a better, more useful addition to our kitchen. And because it’s made of durable aluminum, it is built to stand the test of time AND to be recycled whenever it does reach the end of its useful life. All I need now is a few bags of Fair Trade, organic, shade-grown coffee and I’ll be set for the rest of the winter.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of aluminum, which is 100% recyclable
  • Manually operated, requiring no electricity

Price: $150. BONUS! Get 20% off your purchase with coupon code “greenyourdecor.” Exp. 12/31/09.

(review)I received an espresso machine gift set to review in conjunction with this giveaway.

Presso says,”For the best results use freshly roasted beans from your local roaster, ask them to grind them for an espresso machine.”
They also say to roast your own beans in a popcorn popper.
Thanks,
Patricia

I love that you don’t need any electric with this. Also I love that you can take it camping and love the video that they show to show you how easy it is to use it. I have been trying so hard to cut back on electric and hopefully one day I can get solar power for my home.

I didn’t know you can roast your own green coffee beans using a hot air corn popper!

Liz Cranage December 18, 2009 at 5:28 pm

I learned you can roast your own beans by roasting your own green beans in a popcorn popper, a small amount at a time until you hear the second ”crack”.

It’s environmentally friendly, and uses no electricity. Press is also completely recyclable. Cool!

Carmen December 18, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I learned a good tip/recommendation about roasting your own beans: “Try roasting your own green beans in a popcorn popper, a small amount at a time until you hear the second ”crack”. Cool quickly an store in an airtight dark cool place for a day, then grind very fine for the ultimate espresso experience.” Cool!

Hello, I am a barista at a local shop, 3 legged dog, in Illinois. I had no idea that you could roast beans in a popcorn popper…awesome will try that. I also love the fact that you can by ANY part if one on your presso breaks! I am a realist and nothing lasts forever, so knowing that parts are always available and a fix-it-all husband this device is perfect for our home!! Awesome product!!

Lynda C December 18, 2009 at 9:45 pm

I had no idea how to roast your own coffee beans or where to get “green beans” but they tell you on the site. This is what I copied: Try roasting your own green beans in a popcorn popper, a small amount at a time until you hear the second ”crack”. Cool quickly an store in an airtight dark cool place for a day, then grind very fine for the ultimate espresso experience. Very interesting.

What a great idea: an environmentally friendly espresso maker. I learned about the importance of grinding your beans properly (like not heating them up in the process) and tamping the coffee. Would LOVE to have my own!! thanks for sharing!!

Such a cool product. Have never seen a manual espresso machine before. Maybe I can now finally master the art of the espresso and make my coffee drink of choice at home! And excited to try roasting my own beans in a popcorn popper-who knew???

I learned that you don’t need the most expensive coffee grinder on the market, but it’s a great idea to invest in a conical burr style grinder. This kind of grinder won’t heat the beans up while it grinds the coffee, which means the flavour of the coffee isn’t compromised
