Unless you are a big-budget designer like Candice Olsen from HGTV’s Divine Design, adding a fireplace to a room is probably not something you’d consider. After all, they generally require structural changes and funds that just aren’t available to many of us. And for those of us who are trying to green our homes, fireplaces that vent outdoors tend to be energy sieves that waste air conditioning and heat and suck money right out of our pockets. Well thanks to some innovative design, you can add a fireplace to your room without having to break down any walls, and it won’t waste energy.
The Chimo Wall Fireplace by Uma is literally the stuff of dreams. I have always wanted to add a stainless steel fireplace to a room, but I’ve never been able to justify the funds, manpower and general waste required to do so. Adding the Chimo to your room is as easy as attaching a simple bracket to your wall. This also means you can hang it at whatever height you want, including out of the reach of kids. This last tidbit is especially important since my daughter seems to be magnetically attracted to anything new and shiny.
If you’re wondering how it vents, you’ll be happy to learn that this fireplace rurns a clean biofireplace fuel that does not produce carbon monoxide — just carbon dioxide and water. Wouldn’t it be nice if our cars could do the same? And since stainless steel is non-toxic, doesn’t offgass, and is one of the most eco-friendly, long-lasting materials we can use throughout our home, this fireplace can be the green centerpiece of your home.
Why It’s Green:
- Made of stainless steel
- Burns a clean biofireplace fuel that produces only carbon dioxide and water — no deadly carbon monoxide
- Doesn’t require construction or replacement of an existing fireplace
