When my daughter was an infant, it always amazed me to watch her completely captivated by her baby gym. She would lay on the floor batting at the small plush Pooh and Tigger toys hanging from the horizontal cross bar, and her face would light up as they swung back and forth. Now that I know the potential toxins present in the plastics used to make baby toys, I wish I had known about this option then.
This great activity gym by Cariboo is made of sustainable New Zealand Radiata pine and finished with lead-free stains and paints. I wish the plush toys hanging from it were made of organic cotton and filled with an eco-friendly material like kapok, but it is definitely a safer alternative than plastic. And you can always replace them with options that you are more comfortable with. It should also last long enough to use with your next baby or pass on to a friend or family member, extending it’s life span. Or keep it as an heirloom to remind your children when they grow up of why it’s good to grow up green.
