No time for green shopping? Kanibal Home will find your vintage treasures for you

Kanibal Home - product examples

My loyal readers will know that I am a big supporter of buying vintage furniture. Doing this helps the environment in several ways, not the least of which is reducing the demand for newly manufactured items. But finding vintage treasures that are worth bringing home, particular if you aren’t handy or don’t have the time to restore a piece, can be a time-consuming and often fruitless process. Trust me, I know — I’m still searching for a coffee table to make that bench for my sister that I mentioned a few weeks ago.

Enter Kanibal Home, a company that thrives on the hunt for vintage pieces, literally. It is an online store that specializes in salvages, redesigned and reupholstered furniture, limited edition pillows, vintage dishware and art and more. They will find those used pieces that you’d really love to have in your home but haven’t been able to find. And they make the process painless by restoring their found pieces to glory, and offering all of their wares online, so literally all you have to do is log on and buy. That will save you time, so you can be an eco-friendly Superhero in other ways.

And their handiwork isn’t as expensive as you’d think. In fact, many of their pieces are bargains as vintage and eco-shopping goes. Since I fell in love with at least three chairs they have restored within seconds of seeing them (that I don’t really need), I will hold onto the hope that these lovely, affordable products will find a home that will respect their past and acknowledge their role in saving the Earth. OK, maybe that’s a lofty claim, but every little bit helps, right?

Why It’s Green:

  • Kanibal Home finds and restores vintage pieces that might otherwise end up in a landfill
  • The consumption of vintage products reduces demand for new products, thereby reducing manufacturing

Price: Furniture ranges from about $38-186. Prices of other items vary.

I think I found another favorite green website here with your blog! I wanted to let you know that the All Things Eco blog carnival is up. I almost forgot your article because I must have accidentally deleted the alert email I got from Blog Carnivals, but I did at it plus an apology to you! It most definitely deserves being included, and I really hope to see you back for future editions of the carnival.

Nice find Jennae! Most of their stuff is a bit out of my price range though some of that vintage wall art looked cool. Oh and this plum purple throne is awesome, though no armrests is a no go for me.

@ Stefanie: Thanks so much for including this article in the carnival. I hope your readers enjoy it, and no need to apologize :)

@ Adam: Thanks for your positive feedback even though their products are priced too high for you. You never know what you will find in Green Your Decor’s $0-50 and $50-100 categories.
