After lots of searching, I have come to the conclusion that it is almost impossible to find eco-friendly sofas that are both affordable and completely green. You may get a decent price, in the $700-1500 range, but you’ll have to sacrifice some green features to accomplish that. The truly green pieces, made with sustainably harvested wood, eco-friendly fabrics, natural latex or soy-based cushions, and low-VOC, non-toxic glues and finishes, are going to cost you — often from $3000-8000. Since I know that the average person can’t afford to shell out that kind of money for a sofa, I’ll present a semi-green option here that is within buying range of most.
The Marin Convertible sofa is a plush sofa with modern lines that would be right at home in a contemporary room. And if you have children, the dark gray microfiber will prevent you from pulling out your hair every time they spill something on it — and they will spill things on it. It also converts into a flat sofa bed, so it is ideal for anyone who has overnight guests, and it has a hidden storage compartment that is perfect for pillows and bedding during the daytime when noone is sleeping on it.
So the fabric isn’t organic or otherwise eco-friendly and the cushions aren’t made of natural materials. You’re the only one who can decide if it’s green enough to meet your requirements.
