Green Steals of the Week: Fawn Sofa and Chair & Ottoman set

UPDATE as of 5/24/09: This deal is no longer available from Overstock. If you’re looking for a stylish, but reasonably-priced green sofa, check out these affordable eco-friendly sofas and chairs. You can also browse the rest of the deals in the furniture and Green Steals of the Week categories.

Overstock.com is generally a great site for finding buys on the cheap. You can find anything you want, from bedding and artwork to clothing, computer parts and electronics. A virtual discount superstore, if you will. That said, Overstock in the past had not proven to be a very good source of green products. You might find an organic cotton sheet here or there, or a vase or 2 made of bamboo. So when I found this furniture, it almost bowled me over.

An eco-friendly sofa, even upholstered in organic cotton, for less than $600? “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I thought. Apparently, neither my eyes nor my mind were playing tricks on me. Sure, its not the loveliest sofa I’ve ever seen, and not really my style. But when I find green furniture that’s not used for this kind of price, I HAVE to pass it on to my readers. Seriously, you could spend more than $600 just buying eco-friendly fabrics to re-upholster your existing sofa — many of those fabrics cost more than $100 a yard. But a sofa already covered in organic cotton? This is a great deal, folks!

In fact, this is such a good deal that I’m going to institute a new feature here at Green Your Decor, Green Steal of the Week. Most weeks, I will feature the one product that’s such a good deal that if you need one, you don’t want to pass it up. And if I find more than one great deal, I’ll feature more than one product. Then I’ll recap the Steals in my Sunday Link Love posts. Sound good to everyone?

All that said, get on this furniture while you can, because like everything else at Overstock, the supply will probably only last but so long. As always, click on the prices below to buy.

Why It’s Green:

  • Fabric on sofa is made of 100-percent organic cotton
  • Sustainable hardwood frame
  • Springs are made from recycled metal

Price: Sofa: $579.99icon; Chair & Ottoman Set: $379.99icon (aff)

@Stacy I hope I didn’t give the wrong impression — your post at http://www.kidsstuffworld.com was more than fine. It was wonderful, in fact, and a great example of the right way to do it. I sincerely appreciate the extra traffic and don’t mean to put you off. You gave people a sample and then directed them to my site, which is completely ethical and OK. There’s no need to remove your post.

What I object to is the people who republish my entire post as if it is their own original content. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Actually it’s $380 and you can get 10% off if you use PayPal so it comes to just $342. But the chair does not come with the pillows in the picture. Not sure if the sofa does.

Sounds good. However, I was considering it because I am looking for sofas that do not contain fire retardants, which in my opinion is very far from being a healthy natural substance. Overstock could not state if this product did or didnot contained H3B03-(Boric Acid) SB203 – (Antimony) DBDoP – (Decrab )like many sofas do. I do respect that Overstock was upfront about it. FYI, it is a law that sofa be fire retardant but wool is a natural fire retardant but not cost effective. So insteaD WE SIT and breathe in chemicals.

Hi,
This sofa says it has CVC foam. Does anyone know what that is? I tried looking online and found no info on it.

Thanks,

Kim
