For the Littlest ‘Rock’ Stars: Tori Rocking Horse

Tori Rocking Horse

I generally have an aversion to large toys. They have a way of taking over a room so they’re all you see when you walk in. I much prefer smaller items that can be stashed in a toy box or placed neatly on a bed. You know the old saying — “A place for everything, and everything in its place.”

This Tori Rocking Horse from Design Within Reach is one toy I wouldn’t mind looking at every day — although it can be folded down for storage. Made from rubber wood that otherwise would be burned and turned into charcoal, it is the epitome of kid-friendly design.  And since I suspect the surface can be painted if you really wanted to, you can customize it to match your decor.

So next time your son, daughter or other favorite wee one says they want a pony, you don’t have to go hunting for the nearest stable (or bank to rob) :)

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of sustainable rubber wood. Rubber trees stop yielding latex. after about 25 years, forcing farmers to burn them in order to replenish their crop. Salvaging this material helps stops the ecological impact of burning these trees.

Price: $100

I am the same way as you, it seems that when there are big toys around the house it feels cluttered. I love that this one can fold up, what a nice feature.

@Emily I know! It is definitely beautiful to look at, but the idea that I could fold it down and slide it under my daughter’s toddler bed makes it even more appealing.
