As much as I love bamboo for its sustainable qualities, if you look at it as often as I do, it tends to lose its luster. So many bamboo products look the same. The same colors, the same standard bamboo grain — it can get a bit tiring. So its great to find a company that is making bamboo products that are different.
The bamboo bowls and trays from Bamboolicious come in a variety of colors, including chocolate brown and orange, as well as natural bamboo. They also come in a variety of sizes and styles, so you can find one that suits your taste. There is one caveat, however: They can’t used with hot foods. So while they’re big enough for a nice, organic tossed salad, you’ll have to find another dish to serve the soup. Your best bet: recycled glass or handmade ceramics.

I love the idea of bamboo- but I’ve read various articles who caution against claiming that bamboo is always a great eco-option. One reason being- the amount of pesticides sprayed to grow them (not always the case, but it’s always good to check)
- and whether or not the particular bamboo was truly sustainably grown in harmony with the indigenous environment- due to the increase in demand for bamboo, many farmers and plantation owners are co-opting food resources and more alarmingly- rain forests- to grow profitable bamboo crops. not something i want to support.
Have you found any guidance or info on this?
- also- the process of changing bamboo wood fibers to clothing fibers uses a large amount of toxic chemicals and increases it’s carbon footprint… sigh.
Actually- just as an addendum to that last comment- looking up my favourite bamboo product company- Bambu; if you look under their guiding principles they give the info i was looking for:
sustainably and organically harvested bamboo (no pesticides!) and fair traide!
wow, very cool! I’ve been wanting to find some bamboo dinnerware, especially to use with my toddler, rather than all those plastic kid-choices. Do you know of any other bamboo sites with kid-friendly designs?
