If I could shop at only one website — yes, one — I would choose Etsy.com, hands down. I know I’ve talked about it before, but I’m only just beginning to skim the surface of all the wonderful handmade items the site has to offer. Looking for beautiful letterpress stationery? You can find it on etsy. Looking for some organic cotton clothing for a new baby? You can find it on etsy. And there’s home decor and furniture galore, many of which are inherently eco-friendly because of their handmade nature. Many of the artisans on etsy use found materials like reclaimed wood or, really, whatever they have around their homes. I love the idea that I can connect directly with the person who made an item I use to decorate my home.
And that is only one of the reasons I love this Golden Gate Sunset Quilt Set by Maiden Love. The shades of pink and orange are beautiful (an clearly the inspiration for the name), and it is made with a variety of fabrics, some vintage and linen, with the batting made of organic cotton. And buyers can choose from a matching baby elephant or pillow to complete the set.
This is one of those items that has the potential to drive the inspire the decor of an entire room — the type of piece I tell people to look for when they’re stuck for decorating ideas. It makes me wish I could go back in time and redecorate my daughter’s nursery with these colors and this eclectic, patchwork style.
Why It’s Green:
- Handmade
- Uses vintage fabrics and linen, as well as organic cotton batting
Price: $150

I love Etsy too! I am in the process of doing reviews from that site to help artists get their name out there. What a fun place to shop!
