Off the Floor, Out of the Way: Sproutz Coat Locker

Sproutz Coat Locker

On the days when I take my daughter to preschool, I always eye the cubby storage system that hangs on the wall opposite the door. There are several of them, all with hooks on the bottom where the kids can hang their jackets, backpacks, etc. I can’t help thinking how great it would be to use that in the entryway of a home with kids.

Perfect example: My nieces all go to my mom’s house after school, and their bags, sweatshirts, jackets and everything else they take off as soon as they walk in the door end up on the floor behind the couch. True, you can’t see it from the rest of the living room, but I’d much rather they not be on the floor at all, and I’m sure my mother feels the same way.

The Sproutz Coat Locker by Jonti-Craft is made for classroom use, but there’s no reason you can’t make it fit right in at home. It may not be the best looking, but in this case, function definitely beats form. Hanging this in an entryway will give your children and/or adults a place to put their things when they walk in the house. Hang it in a child’s room to give them a reason to put things away. And if you want to spruce it up, you can always grab a gallon of low- or zero-VOC paint in your favorite color and take it to the next level.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of 100% recycled wood fiber

Price: $249.99

Oh I just adore this. Reminds me of first grade and the cloak room with all our little cubbies.
