Green Steal of the Week: Organic Cotton Selvedge Window Panels

I’m generally not a huge fan of big box stores or chains. They aren’t known for being very environmentally friendly, and their profit-first mentality often leaves green shoppers with no product options, and many of their products are produced overseas with no regard to Fair Trade. There’s one store that consistently adds products that make me think twice about my position: West Elm.

I knew there was a reason I love this store, and its not just they carry furnishings that would make any savvy homeowner salivate. I love West Elm because many of their products aren’t just pretty — they’re green too. And every time I go back to their website, I find new green products. Today, I found something that made me want to dance a jig. Eco-friendly curtain panels that are both stylish AND affordable.

Yes, I’ve found eco-friendly curtains before, but they tend to be in the $75-100/panel price range. Not exactly affordable for the average person. These organic cotton Selvedge panels start considerably lower than that, and even the 108″ long panels are still less than $50 apiece. There aren’t very many premade curtains, even in traditional fabrics, that come in that length.

They are available in three soft colors, all with strips of cream lining both sides. I’m not sure what the dyes are made of, but even so, I’m impressed. Now we just have to encourage West Elm to start carrying Fair Trade products too.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made of organic cotton

Price: $29-49

Jennae, you rock! Perhaps we will have privacy in our own home without cleaning out our son’s college account!
