Enlightened Lighting: Fair Trade Lamps from Radiant Ideas

Fair Trade lamps from Radiant Lighting

Aside from painting, I believe that changing your lighting is another of the easiest and most dramatic ways to change the look of a room. Switching from a fixture that is flush with the ceiling to a pendant, changing to a recycled cardboard lampshade in a great pattern or adding a gorgeous lamp in a dark corner can do wonders for changing not only the style of your space, but the way you look at the room.

As such, lighting should never be an afterthought. And if you’re going to light up a room, why not do it in a way that is also “enlightened”? These gorgeous Fair Trade lamps from Radiant Ideas are handmade by the Viscus Indians in Peru, who believe pottery is a way to communicate with the secrets of the earth and a way to give praise to the creative Gods of the universe. The fact that the lamps are commissioned by a Fair Trade organization means that the artisans are paid a fair wage and are working in a safe environment.

Putting this lamp in a room will make the statement that going green in our homes has effects far beyond our walls and can literally change lives — not just our own. Not to mention how great they look :)

Why It’s Green:

  • Handmade using ancient pottery techniques
  • Fair Trade

Price: $109.00-199.99
