New to You

I know it’s been a while since I’ve done a New to You post. I’ve been itching to put one together, but I had a hard time deciding what city to do next. I chose Portland because it is a city that is a well-known beacon of sustainability and home to dozens of independent eco-friendly designers and boutiques who understand what it means to be truly green. It’s not a catch phrase or a fad there — Green is a way of life. Given that, it’s only natural that the shopping for gorgeous used furniture would be not just easy, but absolutely inspiring. Here are some of my favorite finds:

I’m trying to be as diverse as possible in the locations I profile for New to You. This week, let’s take a trip to the midwest for some great used finds from Chicago:

This week, New to You is featuring great finds in the greater Toronto area. I know that I have quite a few Canadian readers, so I want to make sure I’m not excluding them. I found a lot of great vintage pieces and a lot of furniture that would be perfect for a low-cost rehab project. Here are today’s used deals:

This week, New to You is featuring great finds in the greater Atlanta area. Apparently, I have a lot of readers in Georgia as well, not to mention I used to live there. I was actually a little disappointed at the available selection of furniture. Not so much because there wasn’t a lot to choose from. There were new listings nearly every minute as I was searching. I was disappointed, however, by some of the outlandish prices sellers were asking for their used, and sometimes beat up, furniture. I did manage to find quite a few diamonds in the rough, so here are today’s used deals:

I’ve been hearing a lot over the past few weeks about how bad the economy is, and I’ve heard loud and clear from my readers that you want green items that are more affordable. I’m listening, guys, and your requests have spawned a new feature here at Green Your Decor: New To You.

Each week, I will pick a city or metro area on Craigslist and post a couple of great deals on used furniture that appears to be in good condition. Since buying used is as green as green gets, they will also satisfy my need to present eco-friendly home decor options. If I have any inspiration for ways to modify or rehab this furniture, I’ll include those ideas too.
