I can’t be the only one who looks forward to West Elm’s announcements that they’ve released new products. My excitement is doubled, however, because of the fact that West elm is one of the mainstream retailers of home goods that seems to be truly committed to providing greener product options for their customers. To be sure, this doesn’t apply to their entire product selection, but they consistently include products that are sustainable in some way.

Here are some of my favorite green products from their latest release:

1. Stria Bed and Storage Collection, $299-999. Made in India of  reclaimed solid saal wood drawer fronts, solid mango and acacia wood frame. The wood was reclaimed from railway trestles, and the irregular, stacked wood look is fabulous!

2. Organic Reflections Duvet Cover + Shams, $24.00 – $109.00. Made of organic cotton. Thankfully, you can also snag organic cotton comforter and pillow inserts from WE.

3. Poppy Seeds Pillow Cover, $29.00. Made of hemp.

Beautiful, though not as green as I’d like

1. Jaipur Printed Dhurrie Rug, $29-199. Handwoven in India of 80% wool, 20% cotton.

2. Rainbow Napkins, $16. These are eco-friendly if they replace paper napkins, but I wish they were made of organic cotton or some other sustainable material.

I am starting to get the itch again. You know — the one that makes you want to redo every room in the house. We finished my daughter’s room last April, and I can’t help but feeling like it’s time for a change. Of course, because we’re renters, the end of our lease is always looming to remind me that it might not be worth the effort to do a whole new design. Still, I want to do something to freshen up her room, and these cute marionette pillows and prints by Ferm Living have given me a ton of ideas.

The whimsical illustrations are done marionette style, and the characters even have names: Aristo Katt, Mr. Frank Fox, Elle Elephant and Posey Panda. They are part of Ferm’s Darling Clementine collection, and I think they would be fabulous in a child’s room or nursery, and I could even picture them in the office of a graphic designer or other creative. I featured Wabisabi Green here at Green Your Decor a LONG time ago. The graphic designs on the pillows are so fabulous that I can’t help but to love them! And finally, I am able to hold one in my hands. Without a doubt, this is now my favorite pillow in my living room.

That may not sound like high praise, but I have quite a few pillows in my living room, and I’ve edited out several more that I tried, but didn’t make the cut. I’ve been trying to strike a balance between oranges and bluish grays, and I could never find a combination of colors and patterns that really worked. Finally, Wabisabi’s Sea Fan Coral pillow gave me the look I wanted. The deep charcoal gray is a great complement to the solid yellow pillow next to it, and it also works with the pillows I made from Mod Green Pod’s Aspire fabric.

The pillow cover is made of organic cotton, and the insert is made of recycled fill. The insert fits snugly into the cover, and I love the fact that I could — if I desired — replace just the cover in the future and reuse the same insert.

Now, all I need to do is order a matching pillow for the other side of the sofa!

Shiner Furniture at the Foundary

Deal sites are popping up everywhere these days — hence the format change on the Green Your Decor coupons page. Today, I discovered a new one: The Foundary. They exclusively sell beautiful housewares, from furniture to bedding, tableware and more. While not all of the companies featured specifically make green products, all of them were selected with quality and longevity in mind. In other words, you’re going to find quality pieces.

Today though, you can get sustainable pieces from Atlanta furniture maker Shiner Furniture. Shiner makes unique, modern furniture from recycled and reclaimed materials and sustainably harvested wood. They also have a couple of great pieces made from cardboard. Given that they are made by a local artist, I have had my eye on Shiner for a while. I’m admittedly a bit of a pillow fanatic. Thankfully, I own a sewing machine and possess enough sewing skill to make pillow covers I can switch out regularly. Still, I am always tempted to grab a few pillows here and there. After all, they are an incredibly simple way to change your decor for the seasons — which I really need to do now that the weather has turned cooler.

Karen Young of Hammocks & High Tea and I are what I like to think of as kindred spirits. We’re both from the Caribbean, we both love interior decorating and we both have a passion for all things green. And did I mention that she has a gorgeous eye for design? I featured pillows from Hammocks & High Tea last year, but Karen recently released her new collection, and it has left me drooling.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with throw pillows. I can never decide which patterns to use or my husband and I can never agree on how many to use on our expansive sectional. When it comes to stylish, eco-friendly home textiles, the first company that always comes to mind for me is Amenity. I can always rely on them to deliver flawless, nature-inspired style, and I never have to question their commitment to the environment. So when I learned that they are gearing up to debut their new fall collection, I couldn’t wait to share that news. I don’t have photos yet, but I am willing to bet it’s going to be fabulous!

I am not ashamed to admit that I subscribe to about a zillion furniture and homewares retailers’ newsletters. Most days, they are devoid of anything I’d want to feature, but this week’s email from Room & Board turned up a few gems. Their new pillow collection appears to include organic fabrics from Mod Green Pod. Room & Board doesn’t specifically identify the fabrics as being organic (just cotton), but I immediately recognized MGP’s Bloom, Atticus and Glimmer fabrics!

I am so happy to see such a large retailer carrying fabrics from a small, green company like Mod Green Pod. I’ve made no secret of my love for their patterns, so this is a welcome sight. And it’s a great solution for people who love the fabrics as much as I do, but don’t trust themselves with a sewing machine (although you CAN work wonders with iron-on hem tape these days!) You will, however, get a lot more for your money if you buy yardage of the fabric, but I just wanted to show you these new, pre-made options.

It is amazing to me than nearly a year after I started looking, I still haven’t settled on pillows for the living room. But I guess sometimes it’s the smallest choices that hold us up the longest. Still, I have a great time looking for prints and patterns I can pair together without clashing, and these new organic pillows from Ferm Living would be beautiful paired with solid or prints with similar colors.

When it comes to my favorite bloggers, I will readily admit that my list is long. Even after I purged my Google Reader account a few weeks back and resubscribed only to the blogs that I read regularly, I still wound up with a TON of subscriptions. But there are few bloggers’ musings I look forward to more than Jeanine Hays of the AphroChic blog. So when I found out a few months back that she had created a line of pillows, I couldn’t wait to see what they’d look like. To put it mildly, I was floored! The AphroChic line is easily one of my favorite collections of pillows ever!

It could be the beautiful logo featuring a gorgeous woman with a huge, natural fro. It could be the impeccably styled lookbook with photos that make me want to climb right in (see some of them above and below). But mostly, I think it’s because these pillows are straight up fly! There’s no other word I could use to describe them that would accurately communicate how much I love them. They are the kind of pillows that can absolutely MAKE a space. And at the moment, I’m picturing a few of the Haze Mimosa pillows prettifying my bed.
