Reclaimed Wood Frames from Olive & Myrtle

Anyone who has children and access to a digital camera knows that most little ones love face time in front of the lens. My daughter loves taking pictures, and she loves being behind the camera too. I’m not quite as excited about having my picture taken, but I love being surrounded by photos of my family. We have literally hundreds of print-quality photos that have never escaped the confines of the hard drive I use for photo storage. My vision is to have all the best ones printed in black and white or sepia and hung on the wall in beautiful frames. These beautiful reclaimed wood frames from brand new eco store Olive & Myrtle have renewed my desire to sort through all the images for the ones that will eventually make it onto the walls.

Green Rooms in a Box — Series Logo

When I was working on reader Dan’s eco-friendly bonus room, I remembered how much I loved doing the Green Rooms in a Box series. So I plan on doing a room at least once every other week, which was the plan once the original series ended. According to the results of the Green Your Decor reader survey thus far, all of you like the rooms as much as I love putting them together. But I’m stumped for what room I should do next.

Recycled Glass

Since I started Green Your Decor, I’ve gotten a lot of requests from people looking not just for eco-friendly curtains and drapes, for but eco-friendly rods, finials and other window hardware. But alas, they are not easy to come by, at least not online. There’s always the option of buying from your local thrift or consignment store, or rummaging through a family member’s unused hardware. But if you’re looking for something a bit more definite, you will appreciate this Recycled Glass Decorative Rod Set from JC Penney.

Netto Collection CUB Crib and Changing Table (eco-friendly)

UPDATE as of 5/24/09: This deal is no longer available from Overstock. I’ll be looking for similar deals and I’ll post them as soon as I find them! For now, check out the rest of the deals in the nursery and Green Steals of the Week categories.

When you’re a pregnant, especially with your first baby, all the additional expenses to build a nursery can be daunting, particularly when trying to make it non-toxic and eco-friendly. There’s new furniture to buy, layette items to be found, and you have to decide whether to go with traditional dispoable diapers (bad for the Earth) or opt for reusable cloth diapers. Well thanks to the wonderful Jackie over at Tiny Decor, I discovered a deal today that will make your green nursery-building a whole lot easier.
