Green Steal of the Week: Nurseryworks Goodnight Glider

Mothers will tell you that there’s nothing quite like sitting in a rocking chair cuddling with a sweet-smelling infant. It was one of my favorite things to do back when my daughter was young enough to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time (ie. before she started walking). Now that she loves having stories read to her while on my lap, I wish I still had access to my rocker so we could spend some quality time there.

Mine was fairly inexpensive, but not green. I bought it back when I was a blissfully unaware shopper. For moms looking to green their nurseries, rockers and gliders are pretty pricey unless you buy used. But thanks to an awesome sale from Nurseryworks, you can now get their Goodnight Glider for 50% — just $600. It’s still a pretty penny, but hundreds cheaper than the original $1200 price tag and the prices of comparable chairs from other manufacturers.

My only caveat: It’s not available with any truly green fabrics. You do have a choice, though. To make it as green as possible, stay away from synthetic microsuede or velvet and opt for good old cotton twill. It’s not organic, but it’s better than synthetic. The twill is available in citrus, lime mocha and navy.

Why It’s Green:

  • Nurseryworks uses renewable materials like Paulownia wood, which is a fast-growing, fire- and decay-resistant hardwood that can also help reclaim ecologically stressed land.
  • Uses low-VOC finishes, lacquers, and glues and formaldehyde-free dyes.

Price: $600

I think these chairs would look cool in any room, not just a nursery and the look more comfortable than most. Who doesn’t love a good rock every now and then? 🙂
