Review Week: MadeByGirl Love Candy Poster

MadeByGirl Love Candy poster

Have you ever come across a person who simply inspires you? If you haven’t, you need to change the people you’re spending time and networking with. There are a few people who inspire me who can also serve as an inspiration to all of my readers. Jennifer Ramos of MadeByGirl is one of those people.

Jennifer designs a line of beautiful stationery that is printed on recycled paper with soy based inks. They are sassy, colorful and fun — much like Jennifer herself. That is obvious from the tour of her home that is posted at her blog. In that tour, you’ll see a variety of “LOVE” posters in great colors. They caught my eye too. So much so that I contacted Jennifer to ask her if I could review one of them. I’m cheating a little bit on this one, I’ll admit. The poster I received technically isn’t green — at least not yet. This year, MadeByGirl plans to start printing all the posters on recycled paper with water-based inks. So while the poster I received was printed on non-recycled, though awesome, photo-quality paper, that will be changing soon. Right now, all the colors but three are printed on recycled paper.

This candy-colored line of posters is appropriately called Love Candy, and I simply adore them. I received the mint poster to review, and the color is even more brilliant in person than it is on screen. I recently painted my daughter’s room pink and orange with lime green as the accent color. What can I say? I was inspired by ice cream and candy. 🙂  The lime Love Candy poster fit right in and is a perfect accent on the wall above her bed.

The poster, however, is a non-standard size at 16″ x 24″. You’ll easily find poster frames at 16″ x 20″ and 18″ x 24″, but 16″ x 24″ is quite a bit harder to come by. Jennifer does offer some tips for buyers on where they can find poster frames. Her two suggestions are Michael’s Craft Stores and Ikea. Since I have neither nearby, I had to wing it. I couldn’t find an eco-friendly frame option, so I bought an inexpensive 18″ x 24″ frame from Walmart and made a 16″ x 22″ mat from a sheet of recycled posterboard. It’s not perfect, but it works, and I ended up with a nice white frame around the edge of the poster just like I wanted.

So if you’re in the market for some art that will give your room some real pop, definitely consider the Love Candy line. They are perfect for kids’ and adult spaces, and the simple message will never go out of style. It is available in two sizes: 16″ x 24″ and 15¾” x 19¾”. The latter is the size of the Ikea frame Jennifer recommends. And while the poster is currently available in eight colors (tangerine, sky blue, grapefruit, mint, watermelon, lemon, cotton candy and lavender), word on the street is that they’ll be introducing some new colors this year.

Why It’s Green:

  • Technically it’s not green yet, but this year, they’ll start printing on 10% recycled paper with water-based inks
  • All products from MadeByGirl except the posters are printed on recycled, chlorine-free paper with soy-based inks
  • MadeByGirl donates a percentage of sales to Stop Global

Price: $25
