I’ve lived with my share of small kitchens, and it’s no picnic trying to find a place to store all your cookware, plates, bowls, cups and more — not to mention food. So we’ve had to be rather inventive in finding places to put everything. The oven is a good contender for cookware storage when it’s not in use, but it can be a pain in the butt to take everything out every time you need to use the oven (I say this from experience). This Bamboo Cookware Stand from Crate & Barrel is a great solution if you have cookware that’s in good enough condition to display and if you have an unused corner or floor space in your kitchen. At $175, it sure beats remodeling your kitchen or having new cabinets installed.
One of the greatest tips I’ve learned about living in small spaces is to use functional items as decor instead of buying extra knick knacks just to make a space look complete. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that everything we own is functional, but we make a concerted effort to buy items, used and new, that actually serve a purpose. Crate & Barrel’s photos make this look like a really stylish, functional idea, and it could serve a dual purpose as a serving rack during parties. Just make sure the oven’s empty so you have a place to store all those pots 🙂
