Next month, I’ll be heading to Chicago as a first-time BlogHer attendee. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to meet some of my favorite bloggers in person, including the rest of the ElevenMoms who didn’t attend South by Southwest. I’m also looking forward to learning a lot from a great group of women who know blogging inside out, and I have a couple of bloggy friends who will be speaking and sharing their wisdom, including Renee Ross of Cutie Booty Cakes. To be able to share that experience with thousands of other woman bloggers really makes my heart pump with excitement! I’ll be attending the BlogHer business conference on Thursday, as well as the regular conference panels and several other events while I’m there.
This will truly be a learning experience for me. So if my readers will allow me a minute on my soapbox, I want to put out a call for companies with a few specific great green products that I can show off at BlogHer. I’d like green products because that is my area of expertise and what I am most passionate about, and I love to share that passion with everyone I meet. My time at BlogHer will be no exception. I’m looking for items that I will actually use, and therefore talk, Tweet and write about, and perhaps some items and/or business cards or literature to give away to other conference attendees. I want to represent products and companies that are meaningful and sustainable, so I’ll be able to talk about them because they truly fit my values.
So what exactly am I looking for? There’s not much, but here goes:
- CARBON OFFSETS: I’ll be flying to Chicago, and although it will be a full commercial airline flight (as opposed to a private jet, for example), there’s really no eco-friendly travel by plane, so I’d love to be able to ease my green guilt about this. It will also be a great way to demonstrate that we can make a difference in our everyday lives by simply being conscious of our decisions and how they impact the world around us.
- LAPTOP: I’m looking for a truly green machine: One that is energy efficient, takes material waste into consideration…the whole nine! I can’t be at a blogging conference without a laptop to help me document the entire experience, so you can bet I’ll be using it and talking about it.
- CLOTHING: I’ve recently lost quite a bit of weight, so there isn’t much in my current wardrobe that actually fits (although that’s a great problem to have 🙂 ) It has to be comfortable and stylish, but above all, it has to be sustainably made. Think fabrics like hemp, organic cotton, organic linen, bamboo, and items that are appropriate for summer weather. I’m looking for business casual outfits, jeans and a cocktail dress or 2.
So if you make or represent a truly green product and you’re interested in having me represent you at BlogHer ‘09, please contact me so we can discuss the details and whether your product is a good, green fit. I’m not looking for a bunch of “stuff,” but essential products I’ll actually use that help prove green living can be stylish, convenient and easy. I’m less concerned about the size of the company and more concerned about the quality of the product. I don’t care whether you’re a multi-national manufacturer or a mom who is sewing while her kids take a nap. Just be sure to start your message with “BlogHer Inquiry:” when you fill out the form on my contact page! I look forward to hearing from you! And email or RSS readers, feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested.
