July 4th Link Love: My Favorite Green Resources

Green Links

In honor of Independence Day, I’ll take a break from product features and give you a list of some of my favorite green resources. Some are online services, some are other blogs and others are tips you can do to green your everyday life. Hope they help you, and Happy Fourth of July!

  • Ideal Bite: For anyone who has never heard of Ideal Bite, it is a great online service that sends small daily tips via email for living “light green” life. They are practical tips that even those who aren’t very open to the idea of green living can implement. Example tip: Green up your act. Here’s our challenge to you: don’t buy another conventional cleaning product until you’ve tried the eco-equivalent for a spic, span, clean and green new year. Then they go about telling you how to do that, in short, sweet bursts. (aff)
  • eFax: This service helped me green my office and I didn’t even realize it. I just thought it was convenient. I need to have a fax for my graphic design business, but I don’t necessarily need those faxes to be printed out. In fact, I almost never print faxes. I just keep electronic copies in my email or the desktop of my computer and use them when I need to. You’ll save tons of paper. And if you must print them out, print on recycled paper and use both sides.
  • This service will eliminate up to 90% of postal junk mail for up to 5 years. It will also stop unwanted catalogs. Talk about saving trees! Not only that — you’ll eliminate the annoyance of junk mail you’ll only throw in the trash anyway. You can get the free basic service or opt for the Premium service for just $20. You’ll be able to monitor your account, have access to 24-hour customer service and 5 trees will be planted on your behalf. (aff)
  • and Two great search engines for green shopping
  • Greenopolis: This is a great community for eco-minded people with forums, games, product recommendations, tips, polls and more, all there to help you be as green as you can be.
  • email: PlanetSave sponsors fund their efforts to conserve rainforest and animal habitats. By signing up for an using a email address, you will help save approximately 5 square feet of Rainforest land for each email you send. (aff)
  • If you are ever moving, instead of buying a bunch of new boxes, you can do what I do: Go to grocery store and round up all the boxes they will just crush and toss anyway. But if you don’t have time for that, collects thousands of used boxes from companies that would otherwise throw them away and sells them in packages based on the size of your move. You’ll pay a LOT more for boxes from UHaul…I can tell you that.

  • Daily Danny: Danny Seo is the king of green interior decorating, and his blog is a really personal look into his life.
  • ecofabulous: By far one of my favorite blogs. It features both fabulous green products and fabulous green causes, and if I ever need some eco-friendly lipstick or nail polish, this is where I would go.
  • Haute Nature: Features all things green and “haute.” Fashion, cars, home products and more.
  • Green Mom Finds: A great resource for parents who are trying to go green, and there are a lot of eco-friendly giveaways.
  • Sustainablog: A blog about the more scientific and political side of sustainability
  • Eco Child’s Play: Another about green parenting
  • Green Upgrader: A blog about a diverse array of green products

I hope all of these are as useful to you as they are to me. And please check out the “Green Reading” widget in the right sidebar for some great books about green living.  And don’t forget to enter the Green Your Bath giveaway to win a set of organic cotton towels and matching bath rug in a reusable shopping bag. You also have a chance to win “Easy Green Living” by Renee’ Loux.
