Give These a Turn: ModKnobs Matte Paperstone Doorknobs

It’s hard to imagine getting excited about doorknobs, but I know enough about home decor to realize that it’s the little things that really make the difference. I’ve seen entirely too many homes and apartments outfitted with outdated bronze-finish doorknobs and fixtures. If I could replace all of them with these beautiful knob kits from ModKnobs, I would do it in a heartbeat.

The ModKnobs Matte series is made in Seattle from reclaimed PaperStone, a material that is made of 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard and most popularly used for countertops. In fact, these knobs are made from the scraps that remain after countertop installations. They come in two styles — Matte pivot or Matte standard — and three colors: slate, denim or mocha.

And I love the story behind ModKnobs too. When creators Jeff and Mary LaCoste started remodeling their modern home, they were having a tough time finding cool doorknobs. So like any enterprising husband, Jeff decided to design and make his own.

Jeff, I personally want to thank you for your vision. Your designs could help transform so many homes from 80s drab to modern fab.

Why It’s Green:

  • Made in Seattle, WA
  • Made of reclaimed Paperstone scraps from countertop installations

Price: $65-130
