I am a huge proponent of eliminating paper waste, and this can be done in a variety of ways. I love the GreenDimes.com service, which effectively ends the stream of junk mail that come to our homes. You can also print on both sides of the paper both at work and at home, and switch to eFax instead of a traditional fax machine. Check your bills online and bank accounts online instead of having them send you paper statements and bills. The list is endless, once you are conscious of it.
The one thing I haven’t been able to tear myself away from, however, is magazines. As much as I love looking at content online, flipping through Flash pages can’t compare to holding an actual magazine in my hands and paging through it. I love bookmarking pages to return to later and circling the items on my wish list. But because I am so wary of paper waste, I’m not quick to throw them away. This means a stack of magazines on my desk that is easily knocked over or buried under paperwork.
In my defense, I don’t buy magazines very often, but when you love home design as much as I do, sometimes those photos on the cover call to you and you can’t resist. This gorgeous linear magazine rack by InModern has come to my rescue. My magazines will finally have a home, and a green one, at that. It is made of just two pieces of FSC-certified SmartWood and can be assembled with no tools. That also means it can be easily disassembled for flat storage.
And if magazines aren’t your thing, put it next to your desk for a great place to store your file folders, because traditional file cabinets are just plain ugly. This will let you keep current files close at hand, but off your desk. Sounds like a win-win to me.
Why It’s Green:
- Constructed of FSC/Rainforest Alliance Certified SmartWood
- Eco-friendly, 100% non-toxic water based Cocoa stain finish
- Minimal, no-tools-required design reduces manufacturing waste
